If you'd like to point a domain address that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's redirected to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the site you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record set up for the main domain address makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

In case you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which is CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added such a record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have built an Internet site via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks within your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to set up a CNAME record effortlessly. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it will not require more than 3 clicks to create such a record. All DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video within the Control Panel on how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
